Clinton begins her move to the middle.

In preparation for an '08 presidential run, she's trying to get towards the political middle here. It will be interesting to see all her manuvering (whatever she is, she's an expert at playing power politics). When will other Dems follow?

  1. Speaking of hypocracy - in most corners of the Democratic Party it will be flowing like wine as they try to retreat from previous stances and court the middle. They will, as one of former colleagues accused the Republican Party of doing to the left during the Clinton administration, be co-opting the right's issues, as Hillary's sudden embrace of faith-based initiatives shows. On the other hand, there's the classy Nancy Pelosi:

[Inauguration Day] was the culmination of a hard-won victory for Bush and fellow Republicans, and they were in a mood to celebrate. Not so, Democrats, who did little to hide their disappointment. "Personally, I don't feel much like celebrating. So I'm going to mark the occasion by pledging to do everything in my power to fight the extremist Republican's destructive agenda," House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi wrote in a fund-raising appeal for 2006.

Good luck Nancy. Keep marginalizing yourself.

  2. More stuff on Hil - she apparently gave a centrist speech on abortion to a Democratic audience the other night. The link is on Drudge.

  4. It really is fascinating to watch her positioning. I'm afraid that ordinary people will vote for her just because she's a woman. C'mon people, we're better than that!
